Two new foreign ambassadors appointed to Laos

VIENTIANE (Vientiane Times/ANN) - Two new foreign ambassadors yesterday presented their credentials to President Bounnhang Vorachit, after being appointed to missions to Laos.

The credential presentation ceremony took place at the Presidential Office in Vientiane. Ambassador Mrs Maria Alicia Cuzzoni de Sonchein from Argentina was first to meet President Bounnhang, followed by Qatar Ambassador Mr Shiekh Jassim Bin Abdulrahman.

Argentina established diplomatic relations with Laos on July 24, 1975 and has an embassy in Bangkok, Thailand.

Qatar established diplomatic relations with Laos on February 3, 2005, and also has an embassy in Bangkok.

Since 1950, Laos has established diplomatic ties with 140 countries and has relations with more than 130 political parties around the world. Some 24 countries have set up embassies in Vientiane and four have established consulates.

Laos has 39 diplomatic representative offices, comprising 26 embassies, three permanent representative offices, nine general consulates, one consulate office and 17 honorary consulates abroad. The country has 27 international border checkpoints.
