Terrorist Investigation Division brought under Criminal Investigation Department
COLOMBO (The Island/ANN) - The Terrorist Investigation Division brought under the Criminal Investigation Department with immediate effect. The head of the TID DIG Nalaka de Silva was arrested in late October 2018 over his alleged involvement in a conspiracy to assassinate the President and wartime Defence Secretary, Gotabaya Rajapaksa.
The Terrorist Investigation Division (TID) has been brought under the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) with immediate effect.
Police headquarters has taken the decision.
The TID functioned under the Inspector General of Police. The head of the TID DIG Nalaka de Silva was arrested in late October 2018 over his alleged involvement in a conspiracy to assassinate President Maithripala Sirisena and wartime Defence Secretary Gotabaya Rajapaksa.
Police has been under the purview of President Sirisena since late last year following his abortive bid to oust PM Ranil Wickremesinghe.
The transfer of TID’s operational control to the CID has taken place amidst the UNP’s efforts to take over the Ministry of Law and Order.
Since the change of government in January 2015, Tilak Marapana, Sagala Ratnayake, Ranil Wickremesinghe and Ranjith Madduma Bandara held the law and order portfolio before President Sirisena took it over.
