People gather at the Yoiyama event of the annual month-long Gion Matsuri festival in Kyoto on Sunday evening. Streets were closed to traffic in the event area in central Kyoto, and a large number of people, including foreign tourists, strolled through the Komagata lantern-lit streets to see the 23 Yamahoko floats taking part in the main Yamahoko Junko parade, which will be held on Monday. The second Yamahoko Junko parade will be held on July 24.
