NA President advises Savannakhet to focus on economic growth
VIENTIANE (Vientiane Times/ANN) - Savannakhet province should focus on its economy and the ways in which it will achieve its targeted growth rate of 10 per cent through various avenues of revenue collection.
This was National Assembly President Ms Pany Yathotou’s advice to provincial leaders when she visited the province recently, the Lao Economic Daily newspaper reported yesterday.
Leaders should encourage additional investment, improve the ways this is implemented, and encourage more companies to invest in the province, she added.
Government departments should be disciplined in their working methods and should be unified, while services should be improved so that people find it easier to use them.
Provincial authorities reported on various problems they were facing, including efforts to reduce poverty, improving education and healthcare standards, and revenue collection.
Ms Pany suggested that government bodies should cooperate more closely with the Provincial People’s Council in providing information so that goals were more likely to be achieved.
Ms Pany also visited Khammuan province where she advised authorities to reexamine existing legislation, while the finance sector should look into law enforcement, especially concerning the management of international border and local checkpoints.
The agriculture and forestry and health sectors and other authorities should carry out more inspections of imported goods, and Khammuan should continue to implement the single-window service system.
