The remarks came from the regular session of Union Parliament in Nay Pyi Taw on September 13. “The prices of cars manufactured through SKD and CKD systems will hike in coming October. The cars manufactured through SKD and CKD systems in the country are enjoying tax exemption. They has become as a brand new market due to the high local demand. According to the car import policy, second-hand right steering is not allowed. Tariff on the cars designated as the special commodities should be reduced. We have car showrooms of different brands in the country,” said Lower House MP Sai Ngaung Saing Hein.
Until August 10 on April 1 in 2018, the government realized K1197.84 million as tariffs were imposed on imported cars. Except Double Cup 4 wheels, instead of the cars ranging from 2001 cc to 4000 cc, 20 percent reduction should be amended for the cars ranging from 2001 cc to 3000 cc. 30 percent reduction should be amended for the cars ranging from 3001 cc to 4000 cc. The cars ranging from 2001 cc to 3000 cc are very useful on hilly regions due to the different transportation. If tariff is reduced, more cars ranging from 2001 cc to 3000 cc will be used. If so, the transportation will be convenient for the commuters, said Lower House MP Aung Kyaw Oo (a) Kyaw Oo.
