Lao govt, local plus Chinese firms cooperate on satellite tech

VIENTIANE (Vientiane Times/ANN) - The Lao government has agreed with a local company and Chinese firm to cooperate in technology development especially in the field of satellite remote sensing.

A Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was signed at the Ministry of Science and Technology in Vientiane on Tuesday by Acting Director General of the Department of Planning and Cooperation, Ministry of Science and Technology, Mr Chittaphong Ackhavong, Director General of the ministry’s Department of Technology and Innovation, Mr Soumana Choulamany, President and Chairman of 21st Century Aerospace Technology Co., Ltd (21AT), Ms Wu Shuang and President of Space Eye Lao Sole Co., Ltd, Ms Phoukham Vongvichith.

According to the MOU, the three sides have agreed to develop technology, especially for satellite remote sensing and capacity building for officials of the Ministry of Science and Technology.

Speaking at the ceremony, Mr Chittaphong said the collaboration would upgrade ministry officials’ understanding of satellite remote sensing and contribute to Laos’ overall technological development capabilities.

The programme will be a significant contribution to successfully implementing the ministry’s five-year Science and Technology Development Plan.
