TOKYO (The Japan News/ANN) - The construction site of the new Takanawa Gateway railroad station in Minato Ward, Tokyo, was opened to media organisations on Saturday.

According to East Japan Railway Co., the station building stands on a former rail yard between Shinagawa and Tamachi stations.
The three-story building has a total floor space of about 7,600 square meters. There is a large atrium inside the building, which has many windows to allow sunlight to shine through, and a large white roof, designed in the motif of origami.
Station-name signs and platform doors have already been installed in the new station building.
Commercial facilities, hotels and international conference halls are planned to be developed around the new station.
