Experienced team sustainably developing Lao mining
VIENTIANE (Vientiane Times/ANN) - Entrepreneurs and business owners in Laos are now able to utilise the vast expertise of Ortus Mining Laos to develop mining projects.
Ortus Mining Laos, a subsidiary of Ortus Mining Capital, told Vientiane Times recently that they are focused on the development of mineral concessions in Laos. They are interested in partnering with mining project owners and the Lao Government to develop high potential mineral concessions with a primary focus on copper and gold minerals.
Mr Viboon Sithimolada, Non-Executive Director and In-Country Representative for Ortus Mining Laos, said they have been in discussion and would like to cooperate with mining project owners and relevant Lao Government agencies to identify high potential projects and create individual development plans for each of these mining concessions. Ortus is committed to creating a pathway to take a high potential mining project into production and generating tax and royalty revenues to contribute to the GDP growth of Lao PDR.
“Ortus adopts international principles for sustainable development and always carries out work to Australian environmental standards. Ortus is also strongly committed to open and transparent relationships with business partners, government, community, investors and stakeholders. To maintain a high level of business integrity and ethics, Ortus adopts international standards for anti-corruption and conflict of interest policies,” he said.
According to the company’s website, Ortus Mining Capital, through its subsidiary Ortus Mining Laos, is pursuing the prospecting, exploration and development of mining projects throughout Laos in South East Asia. The country is rich in potential for more large scale mining projects and the company believes that with its combination of previous management experience in Laos, mining capability and access to funding, they are well positioned to take numerous projects forward.
“Our team on the ground includes experienced local mining experts, expatriate geologists and general management. Our management team has decades of experience in the mining industry directly in Laos. With our local knowledge, international backing and laser focus on bringing mining projects to life we will deliver high-quality outcomes for partners, shareholders and the country,” said Mr Grant Wechsel, the President of Ortus Mining Capital.
He added that Ortus has the right mining expertise and experience in both Australia, Laos and internationally developed over decades. We complete all of our work to international standards such as the JORC Code. We have the right ownership structure and access to raise capital for our exploration programs internationally through Singapore and Australia as well as current investments, projects and a strong reputation in Australia.
Exploration and near-term production
Ortus Mining Laos has completed numerous site reviews as part of its plan to carry out both exploration and development programmes as well as bringing certain projects into production with a quick path to cash flow. All of its projects in the country will be carried out as joint ventures with local companies, providing benefit to both companies, shareholders and the government.
Furthermore, Ortus subsidiary MPX has a partnership with Orefox, using artificial intelligence and machine learning to accelerate the identification of drill targets in exploration programs.
“We are currently using the technology on our project in Australia and if the relevant data is available we would be interested to use the technology in Laos. This is a unique capability to Ortus and may assist in accelerating the identification of the best projects to take forward for the benefit of the Lao Government and all stakeholders.” Said Mr Simon Cohn, Ortus’ Co-founder and Director.
Ortus recently appointed Dr Fred Hess as Advisory Board Chairperson. Dr Hess was the former Managing Director of PanAust, a copper and gold producer in Laos with pre-development opportunities in Laos, Papua New Guinea, Myanmar and Chile. He has over 30 years experience in the mining industry across copper, nickel and gold operations and he has worked throughout Australia, New Zealand and Papua New Guinea.
“Dr Hess joins Ortus as we develop our exploration and mining joint venture opportunities in Laos. With his first-hand experience in Laos, assessing project opportunities, overseeing exploration programs, government relations, right through to building and operating major mines in Laos, his experience and guidance will be a huge asset for our team.” Said Mr Wechsel.
