Conference-hosting capacities bring regional recognition to Lao Plaza Hotel
VIENTIANE (Vientiane Times/ANN) - Vientiane’s Lao Plaza Hotel is continuing to offer its regionally and internationally-recognised standards of service after receiving Asean MICE Venue Standard at the 21st Meeting of the Asean Tourism Forum (ATF) in Chiang Mai, Thailand last month.
Asean Meetings, Incentives, Conventions and Exhibitions (MICE) standard certification involves accreditation for capacity to facilitate the specific needs for gatherings of large groups of people brought together for a particular purpose.
It calls for meticulous planning and service delivery that commences well in advance of the event to the big days and beyond.
Both he and his team were proud of the award, and Lao staff should be praised for their immense contribution to the hotel’s achievements, Lao Plaza Hotel General Manager Mr Nobuyuki Fukuda told Vientiane Times yesterday.
The hotel has been a strong presence in the capital over the past two decades, Mr Fukuda said.
He was proud to say that while most employees were local, they always provided service to meet regional and international standards.
“Lao Plaza hotel has around 200 employees, 95 per cent of staff are locals and the remainder being internationals. We have proven ourselves able to meet MICE’s standards.
“We’re not working only for prizes and awards, but we’re also constantly trying hard to satisfy our customers with the always admirable service of our predominately Lao crew.”
Mr Fukuda said that while there are many new hotels in the capital, providing a challenge regarding competition for market share, the hotel has never faced a shortfall of clients.
“Hotel rooms are well occupied, with visits from overseas businessmen and diplomats and in addition, several high yield tour groups from Europe and Japan, since the beginning of the year.”
He said the hotel was pleased with Lao government’s direction of “Visit Laos Year 2018” which certainly encouraged more visitors.
“Hotel rooms are fully booked by customers since the beginning of the year,” he said, saying that Visit Lao Year 2018 is also the ideal time for visitors to experience Lao hospitality.
Under the slogans “the Best of Lao Hospitality” and “Pride of Laos, where else...in Vientiane”, Lao Plaza Hotel is ready to take part in the Lao government’s initiatives to promote the country.
A delegation led by Minister of Information, Culture and Tourism Prof. Dr Bosengkham Vongdara attended last month’s ATF meeting in Thailand that saw the hotel among the Lao awardees in four categories.
The Asean Green Hotel Standard was also issued, while Luang Prabang province was recognised with an Asean Clean Tourist City standard.
Additionally, Asean sustainable tourism award recognition went to Phousy Hill in Luang Prabang province and Tree Top Explorer in Pakxong district, Champassak province.
