Brunei NGO to provide Ramadhan food packs for Rohingya refugees
BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN (Borneo Bulletin/ANN) - A local non-government organisation (NGO) focussed on humanitarian relief work, will launch a crowdfunding website today at 8pm to help distribute ready-to-eat food packs for displaced Rohingya Muslims in Bangladesh.
During a press conference yesterday at the Kitchen Table in Kiulap, Hand4handbn founder, Iqbal Damit, said, that his team aims to distribute 13,000 packs of ready-to-eat meals for the first week of Ramadhan.
The packs are made locally by Saahtain Asia Sdn Bhd, which has a vast experience in supplying food packs for general retail, military-grade rations and humanitarian aid purposes.
Last November, Iqbal and his team distributed 1,000 food packs among the Rohingya Muslims. As most of the refugees do not have the resources to cook their own food or prepare hygienic meals, supplying ready-to-eat food packs is the most convenient and effective way to distribute aid.
The press conference was followed by a sharing session, where Fatin Ariffin and Ain Bandial - who joined Iqbal during his humanitarian mission at the refugee camp - related their experiences to the audience.
Those interested in learning more about the relief mission can log in at www.launchgood.com/ramadan4rohingya.
The closing date for public contributions is April 30, to allow time for Hand4handbn to prepare, pack and ship all humanitarian relief supplies to Bangladesh, in the first week of Ramadhan.
