BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN (Borneo Bulletin/ANN) - The Ministry of Development (MoD) is looking at extending another day to the ‘No Plastic Bag’ initiative which has received encouraging public response said Awang Haji Suhaimi bin Haji Gafar, Minister of Development.
He was responding to a query on extending the days for the No Plastic Bag initiative by YB Khairunnisa binti Haji Ash’ari, Legislative Council (LegCo) member during the 14th LegCo session yesterday.
"The No Plastic Bag initiative is conducted from Friday to Sunday. With the encouraging public response, the Ministry of Development through the Department of Environment, Parks and Recreation is proposing to add an additional day to the initiative," said the minister.
The matter is still being discussed with supermarkets and department stores involved with the implementation of the initiative.
The minister hoped that the initiative will reduce the use of plastic bags to reduce solid waste from 1.4kg per day to 1kg per day in 2035.
