Boten economic zone launches Visit Laos-China Year
VIENTIANE (Vientiane Times/ANN) - The Boten Beautiful Land Specific Economic Zone in Luang Namtha province promoted Visit Laos-China Year 2019 activities and a cross-border cooperation conference at the zone.
The Visit Laos-China Year campaign is taking place nationwide and was officially launched by the two countries in January.
The events in Boten are aimed at attracting more visitors as well as more investors to the zone, as well as to Luang Namtha and nearby provinces.
The ceremony was attended by Lao and Chinese officials, representatives of companies operating in the zone, and other guests.
Speaking on the occasion, the Governor of Luang Namtha province, Mr Phetthavon Philavan, said “This event is aimed at upgrading and developing tourism as a top priority in the social and economic development of this province. It also serves to strengthen the cooperation between Laos’ northern provinces of Luang Namtha, Bokeo, Oudomxay and Phongsaly, and Chinese companies.”
‘Our province has created many activities to increase visitor numbers. We cooperate with Xishuangbanna of China in many ways, especially in the development of tourism along our border. We are also working to develop human resources with the intention of ensuring that the number of tourists from Laos and China continues to increase for years to come,” he added.
Last year, almost 530,000 Chinese visited Luang Namtha and other provinces, generating over US$19 million – an increase of 5.3 percent compared to 2017.
Tourism in the Boten area is on the rise and Luang Namtha is hopeful that visitors will also take time to explore the province’s natural wonders.
