30 Asean game companies to set up exhibition in South Korea

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN (Borneo Bulletin/ ANN) - The Asean-Korea Centre has announced that it will be setting up an Asean Pavilion at the Global Game Exhibition G-STAR from November 16-18 at the Busan Exhibition & Convention Centre (BEXCO), Busan, Korea.

According to a press release, 30 game companies from nine Asean member countries – including Brunei Darussalam - will be invited to showcase a wide selection of game products, both software and hardware, to Korean businesses and public at the Asean Pavilion at the G-STAR.

During the exhibition, the participating companies are expected to be given an opportunity not only to showcase their service products but also to build business networks with partners from Korea and abroad.

Prior to the exhibition, the Workshop on Asean-Korea Cooperation on Game Industry will be also held today with an aim to share current status of the game industries in Asean member countries and Korea.

In addition, an industrial visit to the Creative Economy and Innovation Centre is scheduled tomorrow to gain first-hand knowledge on the game industry in Korea.

The press release goes on to note that, in line with the Asean’s effort to transform into a digitally-enabled economy as emphasised through the Asean ICT Masterplan 2020, the Asean-Korea Centre has been carrying out its trade and investment programme in the sectors of ICT, e-commerce, smart city, smart manufacturing, and robotics.

The exhibition at the G-STAR is the largest annual programme in this segment involving nine Asean member countries - Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.

Kim Young-sun, the Secretary-General of the Asean-Korea Centre noted that, “With the advent of Industry 4.0, it is imperative for Asean to foster robust productivity through innovation and technology to increase competitive edge in the global market.

“In this regard, the Asean game industry is deemed one of the most promising sectors amid rapidly growing demands driven by rising smartphone penetration, improving Internet infrastructure, and expanding middle class income,” he said.

“As Korea’s game market is considered most advanced in the world, this programme would serve as a great platform for Asean and Korea to share good practices and explore possible collaborations, thus enhancing mutually beneficial partnership between the two regions.”
