14TH CAEXPO avenue to showcase Brunei’s rich culture, natural diversity

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN (Borneo Bulletin/ANN) - Brunei Darussalam will more fully demonstrate its charming natural landscapes and abundant natural resources, manifesting development potential, and seek more cooperation opportunities at the upcoming 14th China-Asean Expo to be held next month in Nanning, China, said the CAEXPO Secretariat yesterday.

At the 14th CAEXPO, the Sultanate will continue to fascinate in its glory as the ‘City of Charm’, promoting improved exchanges and cooperation between China and other Asean member countries.

Brunei, which has been selected as the showcase country for the 14th CAEXPO this year, is set to hold a series of activities, including the ‘City of Charm’ opening ceremony.

The 14th CAEXPO carries the theme ‘Jointly Building the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road and Tourism Development for Regional Economic Integration’.

Tourism statistics have shown that China is the second largest tourism market of Brunei, as nearly 2,000 tourists pay visit to the Sultanate every month, closely related to its elaborate demonstration as a ‘City of Charm’.

China recently has been seeing numerous ‘Waves of Asean Tourism’.

The Asean ‘Cities of Charm’ have become the preferred destinations for tourists, especially Bandar Seri Begawan. Cities are the carriers of economy and culture.

At previous CAEXPO sessions, Bandar Seri Begawan made great contributions to promoting political and economic exchanges and cooperation between China and other Asean cities with its fascinating places of interest, cultural customs and folk arts.

As one of CAEXPO’s five themes, the ‘City of Charm’ concept has been deepened to include cooperation with nations and cities in various aspects, including tourism, economics, culture, education, science and technology as well as social development.

The key to sound relations between states lies in the affinity between their peoples, and this largely stems from mutual understanding.

2017 is also the year of China-Asean tourism cooperation and the 50th anniversary of Asean.
